PROJECT 6: Do we read pictures or do pictures read us?

CONSEQUENCES

He was a completely normal boy until one day, not long ago, he met a girl who was different from the others, so he decided to change his personality the way he acted and how he dressed.

They were a very nice couple, but when they started going out, the girl admitted she was addicted to  drugs.
In order to help her, he decided to make her see the effects of drugs. So he took some pills, and began to feel very ill, so the girl had to take him to the hospital.

He was in a room and when the doctor left, his girlfriend could enter.

They talked and he said "
Whenever you do drugs, I will too, and you're killing meQuit please."

A few months latercome to this photo.. She had not quit taking drugs, and he had become addicted. There he is lying on the floor with his dog, watching as time passes.

REPENT

Over 60 years ago, there was a young man, who had managed to become one of the most important and influential people in his city. He was little more than 30 years old and had a great family.

The mayor offered him an island, a very small one. He would have to pay a million pesetas (in 1950),
which back then was a lot of money, but he had it. He had many things to think about and to talk to his wife about. They decided not to buy it, as they had no boat, and why did they need an island?

Now, the man who bought the island is a millionaire. He built a bridge and a hotel.

The first potential buyer, an enterprising and influential man, is no longer with us. But every time we see the island we will remember him and his story.

PROJECT 5: Drama Activity

PROJECT 4: English through literature

JOSEPH CONRAD

The British writer, Joseph Conrad was born in Berdyczów on December 3rd, 1857. Because of the depth of his work, which analyses the dim and dark corners of the human soul, he is considered one of the greatest authors of the nineteenth century in the English language.

Conrad was born into a noble family, active in Polish nationalist movements, which marked his exile after the Polish insurrection succeeded in 1863. After being orphaned he went to Marseilles where, at age 17, he enlisted as a sailor on a merchant ship.

Many of his later stories are based on his experiences as a sailor on the coast of South
America, India and Africa and his experiences during the Carlist Wars in Spain, where he fought on
the side of the Archduke.

He became an English national after years enlisted in the Royal Navy and decided to retire at
age 38 to devote himself fully to writing. He began writing in English, and at first did not
master writing in languages like Polish or French.

SUMMARY OF "Youth"

The story presents the theme that youth is somehow disillusioning. During the plot progression, it
shows the perceptions and thinking of the main character, Marlow, who is a young ship's officer who
is fascinated by the air of adventure and romance of the exotic East. The main themes describe some
aspects of human life and behaviour, some of which are idealism versus realism, survival and the
trials and tribulations that are encountered through life.
